UCLA Professor Dr. Tim Groseclose recently released a new book that uses social science to prove what conservatives have long argued: the media is biased.
In Left Turn: How Liberal Media Bias Distorts the American Mind, Groseclose has readers answer 40 questions to find out their political quotient (PQ). These question are based on roll-call votes Congress faced during the 2009-2010 session. Questions cover TARP, financial regulation, Obamacare, etc. The liberal group Americans for Democratic Action chose the roll-call questions used in this quiz.
Conservatives have low scores: Michele Bachmann’s PQ is -4.1. Liberals have higher scores: Barney Frank’s PQ is a 103.6.
After completing the quiz, readers compare their PQ to those of noteworthy politicians. My PQ was 19.5. Jack Kemp was the politician most like me. His PQ was 20.4.
Groseclose used methodology to track media bias in print, on television, or on the web as well. Results are here. The biggest surprise: NBC Nightly News was more conservative than CBS Evening News or ABC’s World News Tonight.
