Notre Dame suffered a deflating loss in Saturday’s home opener. South Florida came into South Bend and knocked off the Irish 23-20.
Three red zone turnovers kept the Irish from victory. None were more costly than this first quarter one.
The Irish had over 500 yards of offense. They moved the ball up and down the field at will. The Bulls bend-but-don’t-break defense kept Notre Dame frustrated all afternoon. Coach Brian Kelly turned purple in the face when a second half drive ended on an interception inside the South Florida 10 yard line.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for Notre Dame. Next week the Irish are off to Ann Arbor, where they’ll square off against the Michigan Wolverines.
