The NFL season kicked off last night in Green Bay as the Packers hosted the New Orleans Saints. The last two Super Bowl champions put on quite a show.
Green Bay came out firing. They put up 21 first quarter points. Aaron Rodgers was as sharp as ever-locking in on his favorite target Greg Jennings, wing man Jordy Nelson and rookie Randall Cobb for early scores.
New Saints running back Darren Sproles kept New Orleans in it early. He caught short passes out of the backfield. He returned a punt for a touchdown. He made Saints’ fans quickly forget Reggie Bush.
Green Bay held a 28-17 lead at halftime. The Saints defense could not stop the Packers in the second half. The Packers ran the ball down New Orleans’ throat. This put the onus on Drew Brees.
New Orleans threw the ball around during the second half. Playing from behind, they had to score early and often. Brees looked like Brett Favre in his prime. He was a gunslinger. Passes hit receivers in stride. Errant balls eluded the defense. He was masterful.
He executed the no huddle offense brilliantly during the game’s final minute. Down 8 points, he led the Saints from their twenty to the Green Bay one. Watch.
